First Time Homeschooling Encouragement for an Incredible Year!

Freaking out that it’s your first time homeschooling?!

Friend, you can do this.

“How am I supposed to homeschool my child?!! I’m not a professional teacher.”

A momma from A Heart for All Students Private Community asked me to speak to this question.

You know I have a BIG opinion on this.

In today’s episode of the podcast, I talk about co-learning when it’s your first time homeschooling.

More importantly, I discuss why you don’t have to be a professional teacher to give your child a stellar education at home.

Hey, friend.

In today’s episode, I answer my friend Erica’s question.

Erica asked me to speak to that mom who is homeschooling for the first time.

Or maybe she’s been homeschooling for a while, but she’s feeling insecure that she’s not a professional teacher.

Well, let me tell you, you know, I have an opinion on this.

I’m gonna talk to you about co-learning. More importantly, how you can provide your child a superior education, quite frankly, just by being invested.

And you’ll have to forgive the quality of this recording.

I was in the parking lot with my son hanging out in the minivan.

But I was so inspired, I wanted to get this to you.

  1. Hi my name is Mark. I have challenges of my own as my child started early this year. What do you normally do when you do not really know the answer even after reading the textbooks?

    • That’s a great question, Mark. Appreciate you asking. Your question points to something very important which is the need for us as parents and educators to teach kids HOW to find the answers to their questions in life. Meaning, we all need to feel confident in our ability to learn and seek out truth and information to help us move forward. So, an example from our own homeschool life happened quite frequently last year. My oldest was in Algebra and we were both having difficulties with Functions. The curriculum that we were using at the time is a phenomenal and very well done program. However, as with all things in life, nothing is perfect. Think: “No tool is perfect, but many are very useful.” So, I did what many educators do these days. I went to Youtube and watched videos posted by other mathematicians. My girl and I watched together, hashed out more equations until we got it. Does that help? 🙂
