Why Use Subtraction Charts?
Kids often need outside visual support to help them remember their subtraction facts tables.
This is particularly important for kids who have challenges with executive functioning skills or those who are visual learners.
Regardless of the why, it’s important to support any student learn how to tackle subtraction problems with confidence.
Teaching Tip: Focus on Your Student’s Needs
Regardless of your child’s age or grade level, if they need help improving their math skills, give it to them.
While I’ll include general age ranges for these free math worksheets, these ages are very fluid.
Always focus on your unique student’s learning style, needs, and capacity when choosing learning materials.
1. Subtraction Chart: Take Away 1-10 (up to 10)
This first subtraction chart is a printable that focuses on subtraction math facts up to ten.
Specifically, these subtraction sentences take away numbers one through ten from numbers one through ten.
Additionally, you’ll find a clean look and minimalistic design to make it easy for the brain to focus on math facts.

Further, there are two worksheets with this pattern.
- With the answers (to be used as a subtraction reference chart)
- Without answers for worksheet practice
I recommend laminating the blank chart or placing it in a sheet protector for daily practice using a dry-erase marker.
General Developmental Level:
- first grade
- second grade
- third grade
It’s generally appropriate for any young learner.
2. Subtraction Chart: Subtracting 1-10 (from up to 19)
The second pair of subtraction charts follow the same pattern as the first set.
However, in this subtraction chart, subtraction equations take away numbers one through ten from up to the number nineteen.

For example, in the (take away ten ) -10 column:
- 19-10=9
- 18-10=8
- 17-10=7
- 16-10=6
- 15-10=5
- 14-10=4
- 13-10=3
- 12-10=2
- 11-10=1
- 10-10=0
Because all numbers are made up of a combination of digits from 0-9, it’s helpful to see these patterns as they’re learning subtraction concepts.
3. Subtraction Chart: Take Away 1-10 (from up to 19)
In these printable subtraction charts, you’ll notice a slight difference.
These charts are categorized by the minuend.
- The minuend is the first number (or top number) in a subtraction problem.
Whereas the last group of subtraction printables was categorized by the subtrahend.
- The subtrahend is the number you’re taking away from the subtrahend. This is the second number in the subtraction problem.
Let’s take a quick look at the chart.

For example, you’ll see that the first minuend group is the number 19.
- 19-10=9
- 19-9=10
And that’s it. Again, the point of this math reference chart is to allow kids to see the 0-9 pattern.
General Developmental Level:
- elementary through middle school
- and high schoolers (who may need working memory or visual support)
Bonus Subtraction Worksheets
The last set of printables includes some extra practice worksheets.
- Black and white minimalist design subtraction fact sheet
- Fact Family: Who’s Missing Worksheet
The Fact Family: Who’s Missing worksheets use the structure of addition charts to help kids connect subtraction with addition.
Additionally, they help kids further their understanding of the concept of subtraction by incorporating fact families.
And if your child is having trouble with their subtraction facts, go back to the basics even further. Practice counting backward. Make it more engaging for your young learner with this Rocket Ship backwards counting activity.
Recap: Printable Subtraction Charts
Every one of the free printable subtraction tables is appropriate for any learner. Regardless of age level. Focus on the goal: Learning.
In the end, you can use these fun worksheets in a variety of ways.
Laminate or put those with answers in sheet protectors and use them as display charts to help your child remember the correct answer.
Print out multiple copies of the blank tables for your child to practice daily until they’ve mastered them.
Again, if your child is struggling to remember their facts and you’re stressing out about it, don’t.
Allow them to use reference charts to support them. Eventually, over time, without the stress, they’ll have them locked in their brain.
So, Friend. Did I miss anything? Would love your thoughts.
