I’ll never forget the day I first shared part of my story as an adoptive mom.
I slyly grabbed my laptop and quickly snuck up the stairs. Once on the landing of the second floor, I tiptoed into my master bedroom.
Locking the bedroom door behind me, I settled myself down in the middle of my walk-in closet.
Yep. I sat nestled in a pile of jeans, dresses, and shirts.
(Apparently, I liked them to try on, but not enough to hang them back up on their respective hangers.)
Earlier that morning, I dragged a cushioned ottoman into my closet in preparation for that moment.
I transformed the ottoman into the perfect “desk” for my laptop.

‘Lindsay, why were you hiding in your closet?’
Well, that would be because of my son. I was sitting in my closet about to share my family’s story because of my son.
Relying on uninterrupted time is not a wise decision for me anymore.
It’s always a good idea to add an extra layer of soundproofing in my house.

Rachel Olson of the Sweetest and Toughest Podcast interviewed me that day.
We discussed:

I shared my story of navigating the most volatile behaviors of an “uncontrollable child.
Specifically, I spoke about how I suddenly found myself as a special needs mom. Further, we discussed the reality of mom-on-mom judgement.
My eyes opened to so many lies that suffocated me for way too long.
And we chatted about the isolation of special needs mommas and ultimately, God’s redemptive story in all things.

Often, however, they are isolated and alone. I know because I was and am one of them.
Except now I don’t hide in shame and judgement.
This is why I have captured EVERY strategy I WISH I’d known when I was completely alone, depressed, and had no hope.
