Homeschool Reading Instruction Resources & Curriculum
- Excellent multisensory curriculum which increases likelihood of long-term learning and retention of literacy skills by engaging multiple parts of the brain at the same time.
- Based on the Orton-Gillingham reading instruction method
Be sure to sign up for Marie Rippel’s Memory Ebook which is filled with easy-to-understand explanations behind the veracity of using this approach for all students but most especially those children who demonstrate weaknesses in reading and spelling.
This book is an amazing resource that I used to teach both of my girls how to read. The teaching method used in this book is called the DISTAR method which uses direct and very specific instruction to teach reading.
The book is used to teach your child to read and not a full curriculum. It is perfect for the new homeschool mom or any mom who just needs to get their kiddos reading.
My full review of this excellent resource can be found here. Highly recommend!
Leap Frog Learning DVD Series
I cannot more highly recommend this DVD series as a fabulous tool to reinforce and quite franky, teach so many learning concepts including:
- Letters & Letter Sounds
- Silent e
- Vowel pairs (first vowel in a pair says its name)
- Numbers and number concepts
- Shapes, Opposites
- So much more.
My son learned all of his letter names and sounds by his 2nd birthday!
Don’t panic, New Homeshcool Momma. It is not a normal benchmark for your child to “know” the ABCs and sounds at 2 years-old. My son was just obsessed with this series and so he learned them by default. Do not try to force your little learn… it will happen when your kiddo is ready. 🙂
